CONCERT MUSIC:
There are three concerts each year.
The December Concert has a theme of holidays, winter and world peace. I usually try to have at least song in 7th and 8th grade that uses movement. Our musical and teamwork skills themes through December are steady beat, ensemble singing, vocal production, classroom and concert etiquette, singing homophonic and polyphonic music, following the conductor and staying on one's own part.
The March Concert (Music in Our Schools Month) is our most rigorous concert music, with selections from important styles in American, World, and Western Classical Music. Our musical and teamwork skills themes are sight-reading, music theory, styles characteristics, dynamics, articulation.
The May/June Concert is a celebration of spring, summer, and life transitions (such as 8th graders moving on to high school), with more popular music, jazz and folksongs. Our musical and teamwork skills themes are improvisation, planning a concert, self-management of learning in music, and self-evaluation.
